A Review of Approaches to School Safety Policies Implemented by the United States Federal Government

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: This review aims to provide an understanding of the United States federal government¡¯s approach towards school safety policy in the context of Korean school safety.
Methods: The relevant laws and literature regarding the United States federal government¡¯s school safety policies were investigated. On basis of the analysis, this review closely examined how the United States federal government``s school safety policies had been formulated and implemented.
Results: Major findings from this review regarding the United States federal government¡¯s school safety policy were to: 1) focus on evidence-based approach; 2) adopt comprehensive approach; 3) examine root cause; 4) develop crisis response capacity; and 5) utilize evaluation-based approach.
Conclusion: This review on the United States federal government¡¯s approach towards school safety policy may give a critical implication to Korea¡¯s school safety system.
