A Review of Approaches to School Safety Policies Implemented by the United States Federal Government

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: This review aims to provide an understanding of the United States federal government’s approach towards school safety policy in the context of Korean school safety.
Methods: The relevant laws and literature regarding the United States federal government’s school safety policies were investigated. On basis of the analysis, this review closely examined how the United States federal government``s school safety policies had been formulated and implemented.
Results: Major findings from this review regarding the United States federal government’s school safety policy were to: 1) focus on evidence-based approach; 2) adopt comprehensive approach; 3) examine root cause; 4) develop crisis response capacity; and 5) utilize evaluation-based approach.
Conclusion: This review on the United States federal government’s approach towards school safety policy may give a critical implication to Korea’s school safety system.
